Jack Canyon and Erin Sawyer headed the team as they all climbed through the tunnel and to the surface. They arrived near the coast, where Johanna's two boats drifted along side a larger carrier, which quickly raced away from the island as Rallis arrived. Along with Rallis were incoming ships from the IAI.
Jack sat down on a large boulder and looked out at the ocean. Erin sat down near Jack's legs with her back against the boulder. Tangaroa stood along side them as they watched the boats arrive. Katelyn stood on the other side of Jack with her hand upon his shoulder.
"I guess they're all going to want to investigate this," Jack said as the boats drew closer. He noticed his mother's look of disappointment. "Don't worry, Mom. I plan on you heading the investigation."
"Really?" She asked in excitement.
"Yeah," Jack said proudly.
She hugged him tightly and kissed his cheek. "Thanks, son. This is really a great dream come true. There's so much here to gain knowledge of. I'm sure people want to know how things work, how they were built, about the machines, superweapon, planes, everything."
"And who better to help them out than the woman who helped discover the lost city?" Jack asked.
Katelyn was speechless.
"So, where does that leave us?" Tangaroa asked. "I mean, our little dig in the Mediterranean was finished. That means we need a new assignment."
"I was hoping Erin would help me out," Jack announced. "I do need a new assistant."
"HA! I'm no one's assistant," Erin scoffed.
"I'd be glad to stay and help your mother out, mate," Tangaroa told him.
"So be it," Jack replied.
"You should really try to get your adventures written into books," Erin told him.
"I'm not very good at that," Jack told her. "Besides, who would even read it?"
"I'm sure there are a lot of people," Erin stated. "You told me about the guest book in your clothing store. You also sell a lot of stuff overseas. So, I'm sure there will be plenty of people to buy your books. Look at the number of sales of the issue of National Geographic you're in."
Jack nodded in agreement. "Maybe I'll give it a try." He looked up at Erin. "So, what about you? What is your plan now?"
"I don't like making plans, Jack," Erin admitted. "There is a lot of work to be done here, but I don't want to be stuck doing research. I like the adventure and getting my hands dirty."
Kate watched the exchange between the two and could not take it anymore. "Erin, dear, just go with him. He wants you to."
"Mom!" Jack cried.
"What? She wants to go with you. She's just too stubborn to ask for it, or to even go with you."
"Katelyn!" Erin shouted.
Boat loads of men and women marched up the side of the hill toward the quartet of archaeologists.
"Be careful, there are some ghosts in the closets," Jack said. "We met some resistance inside and, well. . . we had to do something."
"You look like shit," Rallis said as he stopped in front of them.
"I feel the same way, Captain," Jack replied.
"Johanna?" He asked.
"Yeah," Jack answered. "No need to worry about her. We took care of that. Everything is safe and sound." Jack rose to his feet and limped slowly down the hill with Erin's help. "We saved the world again, eh?"
"Yes, we did," Erin told him.
Jack stopped abruptly and turned to her, which caught her off guard. He planted a kiss on her lips, which she gave into slightly, but realized what was going on.
Erin kicked Jack's injured leg and marched off. "How dare you take advantage of the situation!"
"Erin!" Jack called out as he hobbled down the hill.
"Those two are made for each other," Kate said to Tangaroa, who stood next to her.
"If she doesn't kill him first," Tangaroa stated. "Though, if they somehow have kids, I pray they look more like her." He nodded and laughed along with Katelyn Canyon.
